Peace be upon the family, as we welcome you to another episode of The Family Ties, a prescription for society. I am your co host, Frank Abdul Shahid.

Faridah:

And I am your co host, Farida Abdul Tawab Brown. Before we get started, don't forget to subscribe so you can stay up to date and get all the All the latest episodes.

Frank:

Well, good, good afternoon. Good morning. Good evening. Good day, Farida. My dear co host is wonderful for us to get back together. And once again, have this wonderful conversation that we have about the family ties, the prescription for society. So I would have to begin by asking you, how are you?

Faridah:

Well, I am, I am. Well, I am in good health and it is a pleasure to be here with you again, my dear brother and co host. I am joining you from the continent of Africa in the, country of Senegal here in the motherland, and I am sending you glad tidings from a very peaceful and balmy nighttime here on the continent.

Frank:

Yes. Well, it's wonderful to hear your voice and know that you are safe and that you are doing well. I am currently. Talking to you here in the father of land of the United States of America. So in a very brisk fall type of cool setting in with the leaves turning different colors and falling on the ground. And I've raked my yard twice and I have a little bit more raking to do because all the leaves haven't fallen yet. But But the mercy of the nature and the mercy of the seasons that are changing and easing us into our next development of our life is it's a very beautiful sight looking outside the window,

Faridah:

you know, and that is something I dearly miss. That is my favorite season of the year. Autumn. I'm a New England girl myself, as you and some of our audience members may know. So that magnificent turning of the leaves is something that is, is a wonder to behold. And be. Being here in a climate that really is pretty steady, there's a rainy season and a dry season. One of the things that it brings to mind is how the sensitivities are, are formed in such a way that one has to seek the subtleties. You know, I'm used to seeing these dramatic changes from summer to autumn to winter to spring. And you see these sometimes. Subtle, but also these, these magnificent changes, whether it's the green of the new spring or the, the heat and the resp of the summer, or the resplendent of the autumn and the, the white and peaceful snow of winter. You have to look a little bit harder. You have to be more finely attuned to the changes particularly in the search for water And, mm-Hmm. What is the nur nurture's life? that the fountain spring of life and what also represents our emotional and spiritual well being and also knowledge. So these are one of some of the changes and differences that I'm becoming more aware of and appreciating in the differences between our mother and fatherland. So I miss home. But there is a lot to learn here.

Frank:

Yes. That's, that's a beautiful picture that you painted and you mentioned subtleties. So being from the mid Atlantic region of the United States subtlety is what we would determine as spring and fall, because typically we jumped from winter to summer to winter again, and we rarely, rarely have ever, ever have the opportunity to appreciate the gradualness of going from a hot. Summer climate to the cooling down part of our lives and to the coldness of us returning inward and being really reflective of ourselves and being able to prepare ourselves for the new season that's going to happen that we call spring. But we tend to not have that here. We just jump from one. extreme to the other. And you get to learn to benefit and learn the benefits of those transitional seasons, as I would say, no longer we in the extreme of the cold or in the extreme of the hot, but we tend to understand that in the warmth of the balance of our lives and of the weather, we tend to have the most reflection on how beautiful life is exactly. So but, you know, at some point in our lives we are blessed to be able to traverse. This beautiful earth. And see all of the wonders that God has created and be able to appreciate the subtleties, as you had said, about the beauty that God has created in those same subtleties of what we have internally, that we want the environment to bring out for us so that way we can benefit and people around us could benefit from our contribution to their lives.

Faridah:

You know, I love that insight that you just shared. And it's also, you know, this is probably food for another podcast episode, but it's something that I was reflecting on earlier with someone very dear to me. And this was on you know, a question that always That made me wonder as a child when I thought about scripture and I thought about the lands from which the prophets came. The ones that we know their name and the ones, you know, with whom we are made familiar through the scriptures that came before and also the Qur'an. And one of them was that they, they, the, the region, you know, some of which had oases and farmland, but much of which was desert land, very, very hot. And so it was really thinking about the nature of, of that geographical reality and how it draws the human attention to the nature and the importance of water and revelation is compared in the Quran. And in scripture, revelation is compared to rain, you know, what is necessary to grow life on this earth. And I think it's only when you're deprived of a resource that you, that you gain a true and profound appreciation for it. So that, that's something that I've been thinking about a lot. And which makes me think also in terms of climate and weather and this conversation It makes me think about the time in which we're living, you know, we're approaching the end of hurricane season, you know, we've had some very damaging and deadly hurricanes and storms in the Atlantic this season. And it makes me think a lot of. the season of life that we're in as human beings. And I believe we're in a very challenging and tumultuous time. But challenges just as the rough desert and harsh desert terrain can make us more appreciative of the light and the, the, the growth and the life affirming and resurrecting power of water. It is in the, the, the, the struggles of human life and the challenges of human life that we become aware of our relationship with our creator and of his mercy in sending us what guidance we need to be clear about how we move in difficult times and how we move toward our destiny as human beings.

Frank:

What a beautiful picture you just painted. I don't know. You know, we often we are suggested, we are given suggestions, we're giving motivation and we're told, listen, you need to, and this is from our creator, like you need to, and I'm, and I'm talking in this way to make it sound more personable, but you need to look and reflect, reflect on creation, reflect on it. And look at it. It gives you signs and it gives you directions for what you're dealing with. It gives you signs of what's to come. It gives you signs of what has come before. And it also gives you an opportunity to look at it and benefit from it. Hence, we use the term prescription for society. Because it's a, it's a something that had already occurred that has been proven to work in your behalf. You just have to approach it in a manner that you draw the benefit from it. In scripture, you mentioned water, and it talks about the water coming down as a misty rain that, that touches everything, but only those things that are sensitive to the rain. Grows from the rain and those things that are stubborn and hearty don't get any benefit from it. And it's described as rocks not having any, they just, they're barren. They don't have any growth from it, from this same nutrients that have given us plush. Oasis and makes the landscape very beautiful. So in this time that we live in these very tumultuous times that we live in we should be very reflective of what has got us to where we are. As a people, what will keep us together as a people and what are the signs and what are the resources that we need to go forward as a people, not so much to look at the destruction of the land, but to look at what can we build from the destruction? You know, how can we save ourselves? How can we save our families from the fire? And how this prescription that we mentioned that is with us at all times in our existence, how can we extract this? Prescription to help us and help our families and turn this times from a very tumultuous time to a very prosperous time to a very abundant time in life. We talked about the seasons, how they rotate and how, at one point, it looks like it's completely dead, nothing. No life nowhere, but then in the twinkling of an eye, you see life comes back and it comes back more abundant and it comes back more fruitful and life continues and life grows and goes forward. So that's a sign for us, for those who are reflective and those who are sensitive. So as the misty rain comes down and waters us, we want to grow and we want to benefit from this. Sign of these times that we're living in and how we are going to save ourselves

Faridah:

You know i'm reflecting on on what you said and I I would really appreciate a few minutes of silence to really contemplate it But of course, this is a podcast and our listeners did not sign up To hear our pregnant pauses of reflection however, I would say that you remarked on the misty rains and you remarked on the fact that the rain nurtures that which is Which makes itself open to the reception of the nurturing properties of water and what it makes me think of as you said How do we respond in this tumultuous time this time of great challenge? Perhaps which may never have been witnessed before in the history of mankind There is war and rumors of war their starvation. There's poverty Pestilence, there's the destruction on every level, spiritual, emotional, from the family to governments corruption, authoritarianism. There are so many things that we are now witnessing and are aware of. And what it sounds to me that you are describing is the science of resurrection. When you speak of water and you speak of that, what is, is, is in the earth? and is receptive to the, the life affirming properties and the nurturing properties of water that represents the power of the creator to bring life out of death. And so what it makes me think of when you said who we are as a people and establishing ourselves as a people, not just as humanity, but I think what we have to do is witness the most recent peoples who were created on the face of the earth. And so what it reminds me of is our people. African American people born in the, the, the, the bowels from the bowels of the experience of, of chattel slavery a type of human bondage, which had not been practiced before by mankind. We know, of course, that slavery had been practiced, but the type of chattel slavery that that was practiced and visited upon our ancestors was something unique in the annals of human history. And so the science of resurrection teaches us that that in that, that earth, in that darkness, in that womb, in the depths of despair, there was a reality that was opened, a seed that was opened to the life affirming properties. of those misty rains. And upon that guidance, upon that mercy, the mercy of the rains, a new people was created. Our ancestors, based upon that principle upon which everything in life is in creation is, is built, is that foundation of pairs. And in that reality, we saw nature and guidance. So our ancestors, they went into the earth. They were stripped of their language, their culture, religious norms and practices. And what did they do? They went into the creation around them. They found the herbs that were necessary to heal their bodies, their broken, their broken limbs and their, their infections and other things that were not tended to by those who did not see them as fully human. They, so not only did they go into the physical and material earth to excavate and find what would nurture, but they also went into the creation of self, the human creation to fight, to create to family patterns that would nurture them in the absence. and the loss and the destruction of their own family units. So this is something upon which we can draw today when we look at the science of resurrection, how the creator of all the worlds will take a people and create something new. I think that's the time in which we are living. Look at that people as a sign and a witness of how the creator of all the worlds, of all systems of knowledge, how he takes something that looks as if it has been destroyed and he creates something new out of it. So it's only by relying on our, our understanding of creation and the material reality and our understanding of ourselves and the beautiful help of revelation to position us with an understanding of who we are and what our purpose is on earth, that we can move forward with with with confidence to heal our families to heal our neighborhoods, our communities and ultimately have a resounding effect and influence on society to bring about the just order, which is the designation of the best of humanity.

Frank:

Yes. And who has suggested to me That my creator, the one who fashioned me left me alone and abandoned me who suggested that to me, who suggested that my creator, who is the author of me did not create me in the pattern and in the mold of the most excellent of his creation, who told me he didn't do that. Before I even have any conscious understanding of the lie that was placed upon me, my nature. Already was an agreement with my creator. It was already an agreement because it was already moving in that direction, moving to the destiny of the creation of myself as an entity, as a servant of God, it was already moving that way. So if I truly believe that my nature, who has its pair in revelations or guidance, Moves me to my destiny, then that means anything in this scorched earth that we would see today has the ability to be resurrected. I have to believe that I have to, which suggests something about me too, that I am capable of seeing my best life. So the lie that was placed upon me, the burden. Of the lie that was placed upon me, that tells me that I fall short and I'm not qualified to carry this weight of this responsibility that God has placed on me as, as my creator and the covenant that he placed with me, that I can't carry that covenant. Then what's the point of my existence if I can't see my way out of these difficult times today, then what is my. Role in the earth. Why am I even here? So I have to believe back with my nature has already told me that I'm qualified to handle this responsibility So with that sensitivity, I look for improvement in myself But I also look for improvement in the greater environment even the environment that appears to be scorched And the opposite of the scorched environment is the barren environment. So in the winter, when the snow comes down and decorates the trees and it's so peaceful outside and the snow is act like a cushion upon you walking on kind of like the grass does in the summer. It's kind of the same way. It's just snow and it's easy on your joints and everything is cool. The air is cool. It's crisp. It's clean. It's so quiet. And you just get this beautiful look, this beautiful landscape that's very reflective. But what's going on under your feet? There's something generating in the soil beneath your feet that you don't see. And then when the time appears, it rears his head and it presents itself. And that's the picture of the African American coming through the peculiar institution of chattel slavery. When you thought you scorched us and scorched the earth of us, we went into the earth. As you said, we went into the earth and we pulled out the resources from the earth to establish ourselves because God created this new people. So you want to talk about indigenous. We are the indigenous indigenous just means that you are you're from the earth. You're from that. We are the indigenous so we are the picture of that so no matter what we see on TV no matter what the We hear about people running up and down the streets yelling and screaming about what was me and the earth is going to end today No, God has already wrote upon our nature that we have the solution and that's the prescription And we have the prescription. So it is great that we're able to reflect and God invites us to reflect. And in reflecting, you come to these natural conclusions that no matter how bad things look. The possibilities are right in the same destructive picture. The beauty of the birth is in that same picture. So the praise is for God.

Faridah:

The praise indeed is for God. I cannot say it better than you did. And I guess that the image that you're painting and that we are trying to paint for all of us together in, in, in, in this conversation is that there are those who are, like you said, are, are running up the proverbial street. They are deciding for themselves that the, the situation in our reality is so difficult. That we can do nothing about it, that woe is me, we are not equipped with whatever it is that it takes for for us to be able to resurrect ourselves, resurrect our covenant with our creator and empower, feel confident enough to move in this world and say, yes, it may look barren. Yes. It may look scorched. Yes. There is war and oppression in almost every on almost every continent on this earth, including in our home. But we were designed to struggle and bring about a just order. That's that, that is written into our design as human beings. More moreover, it was written into a design of a people for the entire world. to witness and draw from this example. It was written into the experience of the African American people that what looks as if it is dead is resurrected by none other than your creator. And when you maintain the handhold of the covenant, you maintain what your, your Lord and creator has designated for you as an understanding of who you are and what your purpose is on this earth. Then you are qualified. and equipped to bring about the just order to speak out for truth and justice in every circumstances under the sun and on this earth. And so what I wanted to say about that with regard to this podcast, some of you may be new listeners. Some of you may be joining us and say, well, we'll, we'll, we'll, Well, what does this podcast have to do with these challenges with this resurrection, with this science of resurrection and what is the family being a prescription for society? How is that going to help us address what is wrong with our world right now? Well, I tell you, we have to begin with where our ancestors began. We begin. with the nature of creation and of our own selves. And then we look for guidance from revelation to imbue us with the confidence to walk in this world and say, we have the help that is required to bring about justice and order in a society. And so what we want to do with this podcast, as we have been building toward for episode upon episode is to build this ethical army to invite those of you who are listeners to bring others along with you so that we can understand how does this exist in the reality of the nature of the family and the guidance from scripture for family life. How can we use those insights to reflect upon the influences that exist in our society, in our communities, in our neighborhoods and in the, the, the world at, at large to be able to impact not only our families, our individual families, but to impact the family of man. And so we want to be able to open up Pathways and to share within this community pathways that we are able to open both on our familial level within our neighborhoods and our communities. And then on a larger scale, we want to be able to share those pathways with one another so that we gain ideas and confidence and inspiration from one another so that we can work together. Toward bringing about this just society. It is possible. We have everything we need. We just have to be prepared to struggle to get it done. So I'm not defeated. The, the, the, the position of the believer is that it doesn't matter who is in power. Do we recognize what we have been given? What we, the potential that we have in us, are we willing to do the work, the difficult work to secure the opportunities and the potential of ourselves and our children and future generations? If you're ready to do that, if you're willing to submit to the plan of God in that, then we, the sky is the limit for us. Yes.

Frank:

Yes, absolutely. 100 percent agree with you, my dear co hosts, and you have brought together. A group of people you've brought together a sensitivity in people to, to be of like minds to work for the same interest that affects every one of us who takes a breath every day, these things affect affect us all. It's nothing that's exclusive to one group is not exclusive to one class. It's not exclusive to one geography. This, these. Issues affect man totally. So as we have been mentioning the environment and the environment look like it's not producing anything, which in this and symbolically looks like it could be barren. It could be barren of any water or it could be an ocean of water. That we can't use because it's so overwhelming that oftentimes requires us to reflect back on self, because now we can't look at the environment and determine where the resources are coming from, but we know the environment gives us these resources. But in order for us to go into the environment, we have to look within ourselves. So scripturally, we see that our first father, Adam. Who in the picture of scripture is shown as a person by himself, not having a mate, just existing by himself, but not knowing his role. He needed to figure out a way to go into the environment to be able to pull out resources. But the first resource was pulled out from him. Which means that he had to go inward to determine how he should approach the environment outwardly. So here comes his mate. So now he has his mate. So now it's determined for Adam. How do I now go and find these resources that I need to build the life that we're designed to build that that God has placed upon me? And my creation. So as we look more inwardly, take time to reflect, take time to shut off all of the influences that have been steering us off of cliffs to our own death. We turn all of that stuff off and just take a moment and just think and just reflect and realize that we are okay. We're going to be okay, but we just need to determine for us what is our focus and what is our orientation. And from that, we're able to build and within us the ability to now sensitize ourselves to hear the call, to hear where the direction of the good life is coming from, to identify those who are pointing us to the good life, which is leadership, to be able to support. Righteous leadership, true leadership, and for us to give our resources and follow that leadership, many of the despairs that we see in society today is because we put our faith and our trust in things that we knew wasn't going to ever deliver for us. And when it didn't deliver. We lost our minds, whereas you said the believer is going to be met with challenges and met with loss, but the, but the believer doesn't lose their mind. They stay focused and stay true and stay on the path and the resources will return to them and abundance for them to reach the goal. So for my dear audience. How many, many subscribers that we have in this audience that we're very grateful that you have taken your time out to listen to this podcast and had similar sensitivities that we have. I just want to let you know how much we appreciate your support here on this show and how much we believe that you. In your own circumstances and in your own locations will use the same information and try to build up this ethical army that we're talking about so that we can have an influence in the world for those people who are looking for leadership and we can be the guideposts for them to steer them and aid them and guide them into the best direction for the best leadership for the best establishment of us as a human family. So I want to thank you all who have subscribed to this Family Ties podcast, and there are going to be many, many, many, many, many, many, many more opportunities to share information, to share resources, and to open pathways, as you said, Farida, to open pathways for people to get to the best life that God has written on our nature, as he's written on Adam's nature.

Faridah:

And the, the design of the human being is that we only get to that destiny together. And so, as Frank said, I too am grateful for our growing audience. And we don't see you as, as simply a listening audience. We see this as a community, a community of independent thinkers, a community of people who want the good life. And there is a good life. Not, it's not a subjective good life. It's an objective good life that calls into play the interest and the potential of the human being and realizing that fully. And so we want to say thank you. And we are excited about a milestone that we have reached. We have reached 1000 subscribers. We are very excited that this community is growing. And we're, we're, we're looking at this as a community of discerning individuals, individuals who are looking to take back or reclaim if you've indeed lost it, but reclaim for some who, who may have lacked the confidence to reclaim the the strength, the agency, the freedom, the ability that your creator gave you. To make change, not just in your own personal life and your own family, but to use those lessons to use that change, to use that agency to affect change ultimately for the family of man. And so we are excited about our, our subscribers. We will be growing, we'll be doing some exciting new things with the podcast in order to enhance our ability to communicate with you, our listening audience. So that, as Frank said earlier, We can build these pathways together to accept leadership and responsibility for being guideposts for our fellow, our fellow man and accepting that responsibility that was placed upon us when we accepted the covenant with our creator. upon being given this precious gift of life. And then also as an African American people being witness to the power of God to resurrect and to bring life out of, out of death. And I think for many people, we may feel as if we're in a period of time. We see, we see war on the horizon. We see the destruction and the implosion of societies on the horizon. Many people are afraid. But our message here is that we have a clear and constant source of help, and that is the help that we want to share with one another. So that as, as Frank said earlier, we can build this ethical army together to influence the family of man, to turn back towards those things which invite us to sustain life. not to destroy it, not to, to to, to, to undermine it, but to build those and enhance those environments, which nurture it. That's what we're here for. That's what this community of believers is here for.

Frank:

You know, family is who we are family is a group, it's not an individual, it's a group and a family can be two or it could be billions. It's a group who have like sensitivities, who are developing themselves to work in a process to enable themselves to. Exist long after their mortal life, you know, family doesn't ever see itself ending. It always grows. And even when it seems like there are losses, there always seems to be greater growth versus the losses. You know, we see people in our family who have lived their life and lived a wonderful life, and we have a certain feeling towards a love towards them and affinity towards them when we see the natural progress of something who now comes to the conclusion of their life, we understand that because we see that in nature. But that only creates an opportunity for greater growth for that family. It keeps the, it keeps the family going forward. It keeps us moving in a direction towards the goal, towards the completion of our destiny that God has orientated us to go to. So I want to say that in our audience, our humble audience, our very distinguished audience we are all family. We are all family. We want the same thing for ourselves, and we want to work for the same things, and we want to make sure that our family legacy lives. We want to be upon those who in millions of years from now, when they look back on it, they want to say that this particular family existed and they gave the best expression of themselves. Every good, every good family wants that for themselves. Every good family wants that and every good family works to find resources to preserve the legacy of who they are. You can't have family without legacy. One doesn't exist without the other in the legacy is just a magnification of the interest of the family. So for this family, this podcast, we have this wonderful family ties, the prescription for. Society. It is the family and you are our family and we are your family. So as Faradah has said, our platform will expand in the very near future. We will give our listening audience opportunities to interact with us to be able to give us feedback, to be able to give us their feedback. Perspectives on things and help allow us to articulate for them their sensitivities so that we all can support one another as a family should, should family do as we should do. Now, speaking of family, let me segway one second. Today is my sister's birthday. Happy birthday, dear sister, I tell

Faridah:

you.

Frank:

Yes, yes. And see how God has done, has blessed us and has drawn us together, has drawn our hearts together. Today's for these. Relationships. But I just wanted to throw that plug in for my sister. But anyway as, as, as far as I said and as we try to continuously say, we greatly appreciate your time. We value your time and we value your opinions and we value your perspectives. And we want to be able to articulate those and be able to have interactions with you all in those types of conversations. So Hope, hope is, is not loss. Goodness is on the rise. Goodness, and it's always rising. And as a sign, we're blessed with seeing that magnificent, that magnificent sun that rises off the horizon every morning as a sign for us. To know that goodness is on the rise and no, he ain't through with us yet. As soon as my grandmother would say, the Lord ain't through with me yet. And you're absolutely right, grandma. And even four generations from you know, he's not through with us yet. So I just want to thank everyone and thank my, my dear co host and say that this opportunity that we have as the family ties is our design is our contribution to make sure that we leave an imprint on the world. A footprint, if you will, in this earth to make sure that we are settling in the soil to plant the seed. When you plant a seed, you've got to pat the soil down and make sure that it's secure. Well, that's what we're doing. Our steps are planting the seeds and impacting the soil to give it life and give it birth.

Faridah:

And we will nurture that seed, all of those seeds together, God willing. And for, for all of those, our listening audience, whether you're a Muslim or Christian, whether you practice Judaism or another faith, or you are searching and seeking and are practicing no faith at all yet. We want you to hear this call, hear the sincerity with which we are inviting you to join. An ethical army of independent thinkers who are interested in and willing to cultivate with us dispositions toward the, the, the best that we have in nurturing the building blocks of successful family life and the successful life of the human family. in education, culture, business, politics, and governance. We have the ability to do this. We are strong, we are confident, and we will leave a footprint with God's help and his mercy.

Frank:

Absolutely. Absolutely. So Farida, as we have grown in this podcast and have grown to have a certain cadence in our podcast to make sure that we are moving in the, the measured steps that we always want to move in, because that is our structure. We are structured as a people and we want to be structured. As a group, and we want to be structured as an influence. So we have come to this point where we have to give praise for God, give praise for the creator, give praise for the one who has nurtured us and has guided us one step closer to what we have deemed destination excellence.

Faridah:

Until next time, let us remain conscious of our creator, of the sacred relationship of parent and child. And of the family ties that bind us as families and as the family of man. Subscribe to the podcast and come back next time for a new episode of The Family Ties
